Last weekend, as I mentioned in this post, we tried to make it to Ikea (which is about an hour and a half away) to pick up some goods for Greg’s office. Sadly, life got in the way, and we didn’t make it. This weekend, we’re making it a point to get there. Do or die! While I was on the Ikea website last night building our shopping list – which by the way, is a really awesome feature since shopping at Ikea can get a tad overwhelming – I stumbled on my new furniture obsession again… The Strandmon chair!
I love how it can go with so many styles and I’ve been thinking it would look good in our living room next to the fire place. Unfortunately, it’s not available until this Winter, but that doesn’t mean I can’t dream about it. Seriously, this isn’t your typical Ikea chair. It looks like a chair you’d find at Room & Board, Crate & Barrel, or even Jonathan Adler, don’t you think?
I’ve been calling this the “Dick Van Dyke Chair” because it looks extremely similar to the one in Rob & Laura’s living room. You guys know by now how much I love classic TV shows (especially The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy). So that’s just one more reason to love this chair even more. I’m anxious to see what the price will be on this beauty. Let’s hope that even though it doesn’t look like an Ikea chair, it has an Ikea price tag. I guess we’ll have to wait until Winter to find out. Update: Thanks to Jillian, we now know it’s going to be listed at $279 here in the States. Not bad!

They allready have this chair over here in Germany. It sells for € 199 (the prices tend to differ a bit but are usually in the same range)and it’s really comfy and has a cute matching ottoman (€79) too…

That IS a good looking chair! … we are probably headed to Ikea this weekend too so I will give it a gander … we go to the one at Potomac Mills … do you guys drive to that Ikea? … I was watching Sarah Richardson’s show (which I LOVE, btw), and she and Tommy were looking at bolts of fabric at a Toronto Ikea and I can’t remember seeing it at our VA stores … do you know if they sell material? I’m sorry you guys have to drive so far
Yeah, we go to the Potomac Mills Ikea. Heading there on Sunday afternoon : ) LOVE me some Sarah Richardson, haha. I’m not sure if our Ikea has fabric – it’s been so long since I’ve been (about two years!).

Oh, that’s not a bad price! If you haven’t signed up for “Ikea Family” yet, make sure you do so … it’s their rewards card that you scan at a little kiosk when you enter … you always get free coffee, a free ice cream cone the 1st time, and other special offers … I think we are going on Saturday … now I feel like I shouldn’t complain about how far it is for us (only 30 minutes) … it seems like I-95 is always backed-up though… good luck with your 95 traffic!!!
I adore my PoAng chair, as does the husband since it’s his “gaming” chair.
Our dining room table is from Ikea circa 2006, when a new store came to Massachusetts. It’s held up great through three cross-country moves, dog claws, and multiple dinners, game nights, small groups. Love Ikea.
When I saw the chair on the front of the recent IKEA catalog I nearly died. I had to have it! To my dismay it was a chair from the 1950s being styled with current pillows. Needless to say I am so excited by your post, because that chair is nearly identical!!!!
$279?! Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off my desk haha Strandmon is cheaper than the Karlstad club chairs I’ve been eyeing and it looks so much nicer! Wonder how fast they’re going to sell out haha

I love that chair, too! Originally, it was supposed to come out in November here but it seems that they’ve pushed it back. $279 isn’t a bad price… will just have to wait and see if it’s comfortable!!

So I learned the other day, Ikea stores DO have this chair in stock, except its not on display yet. I guess its considered a “Full Service Item”. I haven’t heard of that before, but the ikea store near my house had 4 in stock.

I just saw this chair at the IKEA in Baltimore last weekend and I fell in love with it at first sight and then I sat in it and said I wanted it. Currently, I have to much furniture in my living and I’m in the process of selling the one arm sofa to my sectional and once that’s sold I’m going to buy this chair $279 + the matching ottoman $79 and add it to my living room. It’s really comfy and I love the style – mcm with a bit of feminine flair.
I must know! Did you get the chair? I sat in it yesterday at ikea in Texas and fell in love, it is comfortable! I was expecting it to be a rock!

Nice chair! But how well do Ikea armchairs hold up? I am afraid to get it and then have to replace it shortly down the road because it is cheaply made.
I think that when it comes to Ikea furniture, you have the good and the bad. Some of their stuff is really well made and will last a good long time – like the leather Ikea sofa I had in my apartment in college; it stood up to pretty much everything! Then you have the not-so-nice pieces that are made of particle board type material. From what I’ve heard about this chair, it’s one of the well-made Ikea pieces.
