It’s Fall, can you believe it?! It’s the first week of the month, which means it’s time for another installment of His + Hers. Here we go…
ONE // This Favorite Thing has two parts. The first is my amazing mother-in-law. Knowing how much I love Sprinkles Cupcakes, she was determined to find a way for Ash to bring some back to the East Coast with her for my birthday. Someone told us Ash couldn’t take cupcakes in her carry-on on her trip back home because the frosting was considered to be a “gel substance” or something weird like that. (We’ve since found out that the FAA does allow cupcakes in your carry-on.) Debbie (Ash’s mom) concocted a plan to transport the cupcakes in Ash’s checked luggage with them making it in one piece. She individually wrapped and padded them in a lidded cake pan, ensuring they had absolutely no room to move and get squished. And you know what? They made it! (The only thing out of place was the icing on the s’mores cupcakes. Being mostly marshmallow cream, it kind of melted because of the heat.) Of course, then, the second part of this favorite thing is Sprinkles’ Maple Bacon Cupcake. It’s like pancakes, maple syrup, and bacon all in the shape of a cupcake. Awesome. TWO // If you’re a coder or a fan of minimalist text editors, Sublime Text 2 is a must-try. I recently switched to it for pretty much all of my coding and text editing needs. The ability to place multiple cursors on a page, type something once, and have whatever you typed show up at each cursor is almost worth the price of admission. It’s $70, but it’s free to try as long as you want (the only difference being a nag message ever 5 or so times you save a document.) THREE // This is one of those things that I wouldn’t buy for myself, but it would be a great gift for a Dr Who fan. It’s full of fun, witty recipes that aren’t just typical culinary fare. How many times can you say you’ve read a cook book that was actually fun to read, cover to cover? FOUR // Ash bought this for me as a Christmas present while she was out in California and had it sent to the house. Assuming it would get here in a plain brown box, she told me if anything came for her, just to put it in her office and not to open it. Well, it actually came au naturale (in its manufacturer-provided box), complete with the Crosley name written across the side and a photo. I tried my best to hide my eyes, but I knew exactly what it was. When she got home, I assumed she’d just want to hide it away in hopes that I’d forget about it (that’s how I roll–no short term memory), but she gave it to me as a birthday present instead. We’ve had Frank Sinatra and Henry Mancini playing in the house pretty much every chance we’ve had since then. Ash likes it so much that she’s put the turquoise one on her birthday/Christmas/just because list!
ONE // I bought this adorable squirrel jewelry dish at the ZGallerie in Beverley Hills. He had me at hello. Since I have a love for squirrels, it had to be mine. Plus, you couldn’t beat the $15 price tag. TWO // The Sound of Music has been one of my favorite movies since I was 3. After I gave Greg his “early Christmas present”, he went to the Goodwill to get a few records to play around with. Being the completely awesome and thoughtful husband that he is, he picked up The Sound of Music soundtrack for me. He’s a keeper. THREE // Until three weeks ago, I had never had a French macaroon. I know. A crime against humanity. So, this last trip to LA, I was determined to find the best macaroon in the city. And I did. Lette. Oh. My. Goodness. They’re flavors are by far the best of the types we tried. My favorite would have to be Madagascar Vanilla, Salted Carmel and Raspberry. FOUR // With Fall being just around the corner, it’s time to break out the Sage & Citrus candle. I love it year-around, but there’s something extra special about it in the Fall. Before we know it, we’ll be switching over to White Christmas.
Any favorites to rave about this month? Be sure to share them in the comments. And, totally random, but are there any Rookie Blue fans out there? Last week’s episode… Oh. My. Goodness.
