Guest Bedroom Shopping + Thrifting

TWO TALL(ISH) SIDE TABLES, PLEASE!

guestsidetables1

I’m currently swimming in emails to return, logo concepts to finish and deliver, a website design to fine tune, files that need to be sent to the printer and new art for Brown & Barkley to post, but I wanted to pop in and give you guys a quick update on the guest room. Yesterday, we talked about the bedding and today, we have side tables!

While on the search for side tables, we had three things on our wish list… 1) rustic/wood tones 2) clean lines and 3) a touch of black to tie in with the dresser. We searched pretty much every possible online resource (Amazon, Overstock, ZGallerie, Home Decorators, Joss & Main, One Kings Lane, Wayfair, etc), and while we were able to find the three things on our wish list, pretty much all of the options were super short – like, 27″ or less. Seeing as how the bed isn’t that low to the ground and the nearby dresser is 38″ tall, we thought a 27″ side table would look kind of dinky and small.

Just when we were about to give up hope of finding “the ones”, we stumbled on these while shopping at Target…

Target Threshold Console Table // 7thhouseontheleft.com

Greg was actually the one to point them out first, and the first thing I said when he showed them to me was, “Wow, Threshold is killing it…” Seriously, they are. This table is actually considered a “console table”. Over to the right, you can see a glimpse of the side table version. It’s a bit shorter and about half the length. At first, I was worried about it looking too much like a console and not enough like a side table, but I figured it would look a lot better once there was a table lamp and a few kick-knacks on board. So, in the cart they went–well, one went. They only had one in stock, so we took one home, put it in place, and realized it was perfect. We were so happy/anxious about it that Greg immediately took a trip across town to track down a second table at another Target store.

Guest Room Side Table // 7thhouseontheleft.com

We love them. They are the perfect height and large enough to hold everything we wanted. I haven’t accessorized them quite yet, but this is what one looks like after a 5-minute “oh-this-might-look-good-here” session. I’m anxious to find the time to actually style them the way I have in my head, but this setup works for now.

In Guest Room 2.0, we had sconces, but we’ve decided to forego the sconces this time around and bring in nice, big table lamps. They fill up the space more and they’re a great way to bring in some white to tie in with the sheets. I’m using “tie in” a lot these days. Please forgive me! I actually grabbed the table lamps from our bedroom (I bought them from ZGallerie a while back) to make sure I wanted white lamps in here. I have to say, I kind of like them in here! They actually look better in here than they do in our bedroom, so they might be here to stay. The jury is still out, though, because I also have my eye on these. I love them.

So that’s the current state of the guest room. I’m still on the hunt for curtains (I still have NO idea where to begin with those!), wall art to go near the chair in the corner, a side table/stool to go beside the chair in the corner, and accessories for the dresser and second side table. Still a ways to go until we reach the “finish” line, but we’re liking where we’re headed so far.

Now, back to bury my head in my giant to-do list.

I wonder why they call that a console table? It’s so small!!
Love how you used it though. This room is coming together really well!

Love those tables! I’ve seen them in the store a few times (they’re on sale right now!) and love them. I just don’t have a place to put them!

I hate little night stands too! They are always so tiny and can barely have a drink on it, much less a lamp. I would have never of thought to use these as beside tables but I like how you did!

absolutely amazing. amazing. I cant believe how great it looks! And yes threshold is the bomb. I think it would look so cute with a warm woven basket- tall and round- underneath with pillows and blankets spilling out of it. Indulge me please because if I bring home another piece of furniture, I’m homeless.

Or stacked trunks on the other side?

    I have issues.

Haha! Thanks : ) The tables actually have a metal bar under them, preventing us to stash a basket underneath. But Greg said we could add a board and easily make a shelf. So, maybe a basket or two are in our future, haha.

Great looking nightstand. And the way you’ve dressed it looks super to me! Is that a black and white photo in the picture frame? I’m so into black and white photos at the moment. The Z Gallerie lamps are also amazing in the room. You may be looking for new lamps for your bedroom:)

Yeah, it’s a photo of me and my cousin, Dana, when we were little (I changed it to black and white using Photoshop and printed it out on our printer). She comes to stay with us every now and then, so I thought it was a good place for the photo : )

Those tables are perfect! I like non-traditional bedside tables. I actually fell in love with a B & W striped small buffet (about 37″ wide and 35″ tall) from Pier One that has been living on my side of the bed for the past couple of years. It is so practical and makes me smile every time I walk in the bedroom.

I say it’s time for new lamps in your bedroom because those are ideal in the guest room. I think the West Elm are too big and would hog the table. LOVE the placement of the picture as well as honoring family. You have such a great eye.

Have you thought of some rustic bamboo shades flanked with curtains to bring in the wood/rustic thing to the window?

Your guests are so lucky — they are never going to want to leave!

Thank you! Yeah, we’re definitely wanting to try out bamboo shades with linen curtains. I’m hoping they look as good in the room as they do in my head, haha.

And besides… the fluted detail on the lamp “ties in” all the other lines in the art and the bedding. Just sayin’ 🙂

I always love your posts and that console table and bedding makes me crazy jealous of Target over there. I live in Australia and our Target is nothing like yours! Crazy envious right now!

Definitely looking more put together then previous attempts. Your design concept of ‘modern/rustic’ is obvious and looks great! 🙂 I think a rug would make the room even more cozy. Like a jute rug? Oh and curtains! 🙂

I have been on the look out for bedside tables for months now. Like you, I don’t want the traditional tiny bedside tables. That said, I LOVE these tables! I am so glad I follow your blog, as my Target is not carrying them in store and I probably would never have known about them if it weren’t for you! I am just about ready to pull the trigger and buy these online! Any chance we can get a full room picture to see how the 2 tables look together beside the bed?

I feel like you should disclose those are affiliate links.

Even if you genuinely love the tables, this reads like an advertisement.

      Ashley,

For what it’s worth: I NEVER feel as if you are “advertising” products, but rather as a trusted friend, you are letting me (one of your delighted readers) in on your “finds”. You wax just as poetic over a flea market find as something from Target. Anyone who follows your blog for even a short amount of time (only a couple of months now) understands this. I got to “know” you and Greg via going back to the beginning. Do not be discouraged by jaded viewpoints. Please continue to share your genuine enthusiasm and generosity of spirit for products, colors, and brands that you OBVIOUSLY love. The world’s heart continues to shrink; please keep your open. You have many more fans than detractors.

Many thanks for this blog post. I was in dire need of a small end table for our new living room. This inspired me to head over to Target to pick one up. It fits perfectly! Now if I can only convince my husband to let me dress it … he prefers tables to be completely empty so he can’t knock anything off them! Thanks again!

So glad I came across this post! I have been having one heck of a time trying to find nightstands I like; new (I hate being all matchy-matchy with my bedroom furniture) or even something old to refinish (everyone is into upcycling these days…most old furniture is already covered in chalk paint!). I ended up ordering two of these last week and they arrived this morning. They’re all put together and in my master bedroom, looking awesome!! Honestly, I don’t think I ever would have noticed these at Target so THANK YOU for sharing!!! 🙂

I was wondering if I could get you to break down the linens on the bed.

The orange are the Nate Berkus orange sheets? Or is it a quilt? With white sheets as well?

What is the grey comforter from?

The grey quilt at the end of the bed is from the Thomas Obrien collection at Target. The coral comforter is Nate Berkus, the white sheets are bamboo sheets I found at Tuesday Morning. As for the pillows, the large gray Euro pillows are from Target, the blue pillows are from Linens ‘N Things and the flower pillow is from Anthropologie. Hope that helps!
