Welcome to our “house”, 7th House on the Left! We are Greg and Ashley Brown and this is where we talk about renovating, decorating and living in our first house – a 1970’s brick ranch in Hanover, Virginia. And yes, it just so happens to be the seventh house on the left. (Well, technically it’s the 7th mailbox/house number on the left, but let’s roll with it.)
Chances are, since you’re here on the “About” page, you’re wanting to learn more about us. So here’s small a snapshot of who we are and what we do…
First up, I’m Ashley. I’m the owner and graphic designer at Ashley Brown Creative. Over there, I design and sell prints/canvases, apparel, phone cases and such and also design brands + websites for creative businesses. You can also find me over on Etsy. (Pssst… that’s where you’ll find the 7th House collection.) Needless to say, things stay pretty busy around the Brown household. I’m a lover of music, reading, antique cameras, anything color-coded (especially planners!), lists and organization with purpose. I also enjoy classic TV shows – particularly I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show. In my book, the perfect night is at home, with Greg, Bentley (our spunky-yet-adorable 10-year-old Pomeranian), and a black and white movie – preferably something with Cary Grant or Audrey Hepburn.
And I’m Greg. I enjoy long walks on the bea… sorry–these “about” sections aways sound like bad dating profiles. Anyway, I’m what some have called a “professional geek”, otherwise known as a web developer, and I’m also the worship pastor at our church. I’m passionate about the Bible, music, and optimized, easy-to-read code. I’m a big fan of sci-fi movies, and I’ve got a shelf full of sci-fi/fantasy novels. In my “free time” (whatever that is), I like to read, play guitar, and write more code. Yep. I’m that much of a geek. Before buying a house, I didn’t know the difference between satin and eggshell paint finishes, and putting a cordless drill in my hand was a dangerous proposition. Nevertheless, I’m learning this whole renovation/design thing little by little and having fun along the way. I also spend a lot of my time keeping Ashley’s feet on the ground – like trying to convince her we don’t need to paint the laundry room… again.
We originally met at church, and several years later, we both graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Greg majored in Business Administration as well as Computer Information Systems and minored in Theology. I majored in Advertising as well as Telecommunications and minored in both Theology and Art Design. After graduation, we moved back to our homes here in Richmond, and in December 2007, became Mr. & Mrs. Brown. After cozy apartment living for almost three years, we decided that we were ready to take the next big step: home ownership.
A few weeks before closing, we made the decision to start a blog about the demolition, renovation, decorating and everything else that comes along with remodeling and living in our first house. After all, we were a web developer and graphic designer, so blogging just seemed to be a natural fit for us.
Thank you, so much, for taking the time to read our blog! We hope you decide to stick around and see what’s coming next…
